Role
The Finance Officer executes day-to-day financial operations of the organization, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective internal controls, statutory compliance, payroll administration, and donor compliance. Works closely with the Finance Controller to implement financial policies and strengthen financial controls.
Key Duties
- Execute day-to-day accounting operations and record all financial transactions
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations, cash reconciliations and balance sheet schedules
- Ensure adequate cash balances and support day-to-day cash flow management
- Process payments with proper supporting documentation
- Maintain accurate accounting records per organizational policies and standards
- Perform month-end financial close activities and prepare journal entries
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for management review
- Produce budget monitoring reports and expenditure analyses for departments and projects
- Perform budget variance analysis and recommend corrective actions
- Oversee monthly payroll processing and coordinate with HR on staff changes
- Ensure timely remittance of statutory deductions (PAYE, NSSF, LST, WHT)
- Monitor project expenditures for donor compliance and prepare donor financial reports
- Ensure compliance with internal financial policies and procedures
- Support coordination of internal and external audits
- Work with program, procurement, HR and operations teams on financial compliance
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or related field
- Professional accounting qualification (CPA, ACCA, CA) is an added advantage
- Minimum of 5 years' progressive experience in finance, preferably in NGO/INGO or donor-funded environment
- Experience in donor-funded project financial management and reporting
- Strong financial management and accounting skills with knowledge of Uganda statutory requirements
