Grant Thornton Uganda is recruiting a Head Strategy And Projects on behalf of its client, a leading commercial bank in Uganda. The Head Strategy & Projects will provide strategic leadership in translating the Bank's long-term vision into measurable business outcomes and will lead strategy development and execution, strategic performance management, product development, market intelligence and the implementation of key strategic projects. The position is based at 3rd Floor, Lugogo One, Plot 23, Lugogo Bypass, Kampala, Uganda, reports to the Managing Director and supervises the Product Development & Projects Officer. Employment Type: Full-time. Work Hours: 8 hours.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the development, implementation and cascading of the Bank's strategy and annual strategic objectives.
- Provide strategic insights to the MD and EXCO on market trends, economic developments, competitive dynamics and emerging opportunities.
- Monitor performance against strategic objectives, budgets and key performance indicators and recommend corrective actions.
- Identify growth opportunities, new market segments, products and business ventures aligned with the Bank's strategy and risk appetite.
- Lead the development, review and refinement of the Bank's products and services based on market and customer insights.
- Lead and monitor strategic projects, ensuring effective delivery within agreed scope, timelines, budgets and quality standards.
- Identify and monitor strategic risks and opportunities and recommend appropriate mitigation or action plans.
- Provide regular reporting to Management on strategic performance, key initiatives, risks and outcomes.
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Business Administration or a related discipline.
- Master's degree, preferably an MBA or relevant advanced degree, is preferred.
- Minimum 7 years' experience in strategic planning, corporate strategy, corporate development or management consulting, with significant experience in banking or financial services.
- Proven experience in strategy execution, strategic project management, product development and/or business analysis.
- Experience in market research, competitive intelligence, financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting.
- Prior experience managing a function or department and associated budgets is preferred.
- Strong strategic thinking, business acumen, analytical, project management, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent communication, presentation and report-writing skills, with high ethical standards and integrity.
- Proficiency in English Language and any other local language, preferably Luganda.
