Job Details

Makerere University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Laboratory Assistant, Department of Chemistry. The position is tenable in Kampala and reports to the Technician. This is a 4-year contract appointment under remuneration scale PU13. The role is primarily laboratory-based, supporting the day-to-day operations of the Chemistry laboratories, ensuring safety compliance, and assisting academic staff and students during practical sessions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Clean and organize workplace equipment and facilities
Implement guidelines and regulations to ensure safety in the workplace
Assist in preparing students’ practicals
Keep records of the materials used in the workplace
Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

Required Qualification: Certificate in Science Laboratory (Chemistry)
Minimum Level of Education: Professional Certificate
Experience: 12 months of relevant experience preferred
Must not exceed 55 years of age at the time of application
Knowledge of laboratory safety guidelines and regulations
Ability to maintain accurate records of laboratory materials and equipment
Organized, disciplined and able to support students and technicians during practicals
