The role is responsible for accurately reviewing prescriptions, translating pharmacy services into appropriate billing and coding entries, and ensuring claims are compliant with regulatory and payer requirements. The specialist will work closely with pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to verify patient information, medication details, and insurance coverage before submission. Daily tasks include managing billing records, resolving claim denials, reconciling accounts, and maintaining clear communication with customers and insurers, while supporting continuous process improvement in pharmacy billing workflows and contributing to data quality within Mediloop's health data platform. Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Accurately review prescriptions and translate pharmacy services into appropriate billing and coding entries
- Ensure claims are compliant with regulatory and payer requirements before submission
- Collaborate closely with pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to verify patient information, medication details, and insurance coverage
- Manage billing records, maintain accurate documentation, and reconcile accounts
- Resolve claim denials and rejections, following up with payers and customers to ensure timely reimbursement
- Maintain clear communication with customers and insurers regarding billing inquiries and coverage issues
- Support continuous process improvement in pharmacy billing workflows and contribute to data quality within Mediloop's health data platform
- Work with electronic health record (EHR) and billing systems ensuring numerical accuracy and data integrity
- Provide professional customer service, handling billing-related concerns and inquiries effectively
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements
- Strong knowledge of pharmacy operations and medication workflows, including familiarity with pharmacy practice and prescription processing
- Experience collaborating with Pharmacy Technicians or similar roles in a retail, hospital, or clinical pharmacy setting
- Demonstrated customer service skills with ability to communicate clearly, handle inquiries, and resolve billing-related concerns professionally
- Understanding of basic compounding concepts and how compounded medications are documented and billed
- Proficiency in medical billing and coding principles, preferably with experience in pharmacy claims and insurance reimbursement
- Strong attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and ability to work with electronic health record and billing systems
- Ability to work on-site in Kampala, collaborate within cross-functional teams, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Diploma or degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Health Information Management, or a related field; relevant certifications in billing and coding are an advantage
- Minimum experience of 12 months (1 year) in a relevant field
- Level of Education: Bachelor's degree preferred
- Must be available to work full-time on-site in Kampala
